Hidden between the lines and within the folds of unpleasantness are often found what can be called a thread of intelligence. Only those who can tune into a trend that underlines a seemingly boring speech, a skill, a piece of music, narration etc. can tap into something special there.
During a regular class in school or even at a long talk, there will be many who will phase out after a while. But what they do not know is that those that are listening on with an unphased gaze and attentive hearing have managed to find that thread of intelligence and hold on to it until the end of the talk.
The thread of intelligence is so; it leaves not those few, rather it weaves them in until they know better than they did before. That lucky bunch of individuals is then more enlightened, more thoughtful and may be more skilled too. They listen more and react less and end up, many times, even being inspired.
Why then do some manage to stay focussed through some things and others find it boring or useless? That is exactly where the thin divide and the strand of the initial inviting streak of intelligence lies that some step onto and follow and others are left out more like those in a world of ignorance.
Not always will intelligence be found within the exciting and attractive like a peppy song, or a funny play or an interesting class. It is not always true that something that carries a great overall impact in a performance may impact the intelligent part of our brains, but intelligence can be found and enhanced through many seemingly boring and mundane things…
Remember having memorised a poetry by heart, or getting the hang of covering your books? Remember having managed to iron that gravely wrinkled shirt and not having lost your nerve through it? Remember learning to bicycle or juggle three lemons even if you failed several times? Remember stitching a button firmly in its most functional spot or having reduced a heap of oily utensils to a shiny stack? Remember that good feeling of success after a messy greasy repair? Remember patiently listening to the stories of the aged and experienced, sitting disciplined through long prayers and meditation too?
You came out a different person on the other side of it, didn’t you? Some part within changed. Right?
The thread of intelligence in each teaching experience is different. And yet in the end will give you the same feeling of uncovering and befriending a part of you never knew existed before.
That’s the Eureka moment that occurs when you have tapped into the special streak of intelligence. It is a moment that lights up a spark in your head and then just like that you come to a better knowing of not only something new but yourself too!
