“All of science is nothing more than the refinement of everyday thinking.” -Albert Einstein

Problem solving attitude is the need of the hour and to achieve this every citizen needs to possess a scientific literacy. Science is everywhere, right from getting up from the bed to carrying out our day today activities . Each and every activity of our life is based on scientific principles. Question arises on how to literate common citizens about these principles. Preparing a science fair projects can be one of the way of achieving this & SCERT has been doing it continuously over the years.

Students of our school has been participating in various science fair competitions with curiosity & enthusiasm. All these years I have seen students working hard, no matter the amount of preparation time it takes. Students dig into a question through hands on science and when they complete the project it inspires their learning. After all the efforts, have seen students presenting their project worthy of a proud display.

One such unique and inspiring project was presented by a student at the Western India Science Fair which had won the 1st place at State Level and had made its entry at the Nationals. It was presented by a student Ms Khushi Prabhudesai.

Children learn by doing in their free moments. They are always tinkering, pottering, playing or messing up with whatever they can lay their hands on. It is during the play that children learn a lot of important things about science.

The project under the title CURIOUS SCIENCE had a display of different toys like dancing doll, crawling bug, rainbow top, mini magic, balloon car, flattering butterfly, eating bug, windmill, mini hovercraft ,DNA model etc, working on some of the important scientific principles like Friction, Dispersion of light, Newton’s third law, Static electricity, Electric circuit, Refraction of light etc. And all these toys were made from trash.

The main motive for making toys from trash is that it is inexpensive and this is a boon to a country like India. Toys made from trash gives children a good scope to expose their skills and improve their mental skills. Also understanding the principle behind the working of these toys help children to attain scientific literacy.
